Working at VentureDevs: Quick Chat with Alicja

Want to know what it’s like to work at VentureDevs? Welcome to our new series, which features the stories and hidden superpowers of the VentureDevs team.

We are starting off this series with a post on one of our fearless Product Owners, Alicja Karalus, who is a superwoman, scooter fanatic, and world traveler in her life outside of the “office”.

Without further adieu, meet Alicja!

What were your expectations surrounding working at VentureDevs?

A few years ago, I summed up the features of my dream job. I wanted to work with new technologies, communicate mainly in English, be able to work remotely, and be surrounded by a talented team that I could learn a lot from. At VentureDevs, I found that perfect place.

So, now that you are here, what is the reality of working at VentureDevs?

At VentureDevs, I've never heard, "it's not my problem, figure it out on your own". Everyone is eager to help, and I receive enormous support from the entire team. With that, I like the lack of formality and the emphasis on transparency within the company. I am surrounded by open people with similar values - "Work hard, play hard" - that's our middle name. Thanks to working at VentureDevs, I’ve learned how to both work well remotely with my team members and how to thrive while working on high profile products with demanding clients. At VentureDevs, I learn something new every day.

Enough about VentureDevs. What do you do after work?

After work, I study design thinking, learn how to play golf, and ride on my scooter. Besides that, I love spending time with my family and friends - especially when it involves heading into the heart of nature to eat good food. I also enjoy exploring other cities and traveling to foreign countries - one day I plan to sightsee Berlin on my scooter.

And last question. Are there any articles or books about product management you’d recommend?

Sure! If you’d like to know more about this subject, I’d recommend the following materials:

  • Ben Horowitz, The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers, New York: HarperBusiness, 2014.
  • Simon Sinek, Start With Why, New York: Penguin Group, 2009.
  • Sun Tzu, The Art of War, London: Watkins Media, 2005
  • Michał Bartyzel, Oprogramowanie szyte na miarę, Gliwice: Helion, 2012
  • Nowoczesne projektowanie modeli biznesowych. Narzędzia, kompetencje, mentalność i innowacje, Gliwice: Helion, 2018.
Sounds great! Thank you Alicja for the reading list, and we’re waiting for you to take your Berlin scootering adventure!

At VentureDevs we believe in teamwork, agility, research, exploration and constant learning. Want to join our rockstar team? Check out our open positions in Poland and the US!
